The guy in the red shirt is putting Platonist assumptions into the Bible. I’d have plainly confronted him with this and I’d have referred him to Teske’s introduction on Augustine’s writings on Genesis, in which he shows how Augustine uses a mistranslated prooftext (I believe it is Sirach 18:1) to prove his Platonist assumptions and that the common believers did not hold to many of those assumptions.
